First Week Happenings!
We are full steam ahead with the new course. Everybody arrived safely on Friday after a long drive up from Johannesburg Airport. Saturday was the ‘breaking in’ day. Our students went through the many pages of health and safety and went on a camp walk about to familiarise themselves with the campuses layouts. All the formalities and paperwork such as FGASA registrations, Medical forms etc were also concluded, ending the day with a great “Meet and Greet” braai (BBQ). Everyone got to know a bit about the instructors, staff and their fellow students. It is always amazing to see the diverse backgrounds of all our students, why they are on the course and how they got to this point. We have a little bit of each country in our student group with this course – Canada, Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, India, Tanzania, South Africa, France, Netherlands and Scotland! Superb mix indeed!
Monday was the exciting day – a morning and afternoon game drive. No doubt what all the students had been waiting for! Great sightings were witnessed – Hyenas and Rhinos being the most remembered on the Mahlahla side and Lions and Ellies on the Garonga side! Great day for both campuses! We hope for many more exciting and interesting sightings this course – hopefully our famous Mahlahla campus Pangolin will return to delight some of the students.
The rest of the week involves First Aid courses – an invaluable (and necessary) skill to have in this industry, so naturally we do this early on in the course. The purchasing of uniforms (Khaki of course!) and getting Traffic numbers for our foreign students to start the process of obtaining drivers licences, as well as game drives and a mystery test will all be done this week – a busy, but important week indeed!
Until next time, The Bushwise Team
