Helping the Environment!

This week has been an interesting one. Learners licence bookings have been completed and our students will be writing their tests at the beginning of February. Good luck students! After learners has been completed, students will move onto their South African Drivers Licence tests and then finally PDP’s. Public Drivers Permits allow our students, as future Guides, to carry groups of people on company vehicles. Driving guests is an important aspect of being a Field/Safari Guide and therefore it is important for all our students to have PDP licences.

Lectures came in the form of Birds, a wide topic which is usually confusing to our students in the early stages of the course. However, with a theory lecture, bird walk and audio session completed – our students are already showing a remarkable improvement and interest in these beautiful creatures (as in the case of the colourful Lilac-breasted Roller seen in the photo above)! Not to worry though, as with all our subjects covered at Bushwise, the lecture does not end in the classroom. Throughout the 6 month training period, all the topics will be revisited with almost every game drive and practical session, ensuring our students leave the course as highly professional, well informed and passionate field guides!

On the conservation side of things, Bushwise is proud to announce that we are now part of the Meat Free Monday initiative. Joining the global movement to encourage people to have one day a week free of meat, we hope that this small move will be our contribution to impacting the environment, animals and our health in a positive way. Our students and staff are keen to help us with this initiative and our Menus will be completely free of meat on Mondays! We hope to keep this a Bushwise policy and future students will be involved with this to. 80 people pledging to support our environment every year – we hope that this small change will have a big impact!
